We tend to think generosity means giving whatever is asked of us.
But you can give more than almost anyone around you and still walk away from every conversation wondering if it was enough. Karlee has been hearing a version of this from clients across very different corners of the working world. They are capable, generous, the person everyone calls. And they are convinced they are behind.
Guilt asks, "What else could I give?" Dignity asks, "What can I offer without reducing myself?"
The first question has no bottom. The second one gives you somewhere to stand.
In this solo episode, Karlee makes the case for dignity as a practical way to make sound decisions, especially for people with generous hearts. She explains why generosity tips so easily into self-erasure, what dignity gives us that being nice does not, and what the research says about the difference between being useful and feeling worthy. She also connects dignity to the heart of good boundary work, as Boundary Academy opens its doors.
Karlee shares what dignity sounds like in real life, from a volunteer project that has grown far bigger than she planned to the people in her own circle who expect her to listen but show little curiosity about her. And she offers one question from appreciative inquiry you can bring into any decision this week.
If you keep saying yes and then resenting it, or if guilt is making your decisions for you, this episode is for you.
